About Douglas Orton Imaging
April 2012 I was awarded 1st Place in the International Conservation Photography Awards, exhibit to open at the Burke Museum, Seattle, June 29, 2012. This fall and winter of 2011- 2012 I have been pleased to receive Honorable Mention in the Worldwide Photography Gala Awards "Colour" juried exhiit and to to have a portrait selected for exhibit at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado during March,2012. Beginning the 2011 new year, I joined photographers from around the world in three prestigiouse exhibits. First up is a juried portrait event titled Pose and Gesture at Vermont Photo Workplace in Middlebury, VT. Next up is a winning series in the World Wide Photography Gala Awards, where photogs from 44 countries competed for journalistic honors. Then, in late March it's back to the Photoplace Gallery for an on-line exhibit The Language of Light. During 2010 I have been showing at juried exhibits at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, Colorado and at the Burke Museum in Seattle, Washington. At CFA I was proud to be accepted into the international exhibit titled Red. In Seattle I received Honorable Mention in the Art Wolfe inspired International Conservation Photography Awards, also an international competition, which ran through summer before beginning a traveling schedule.
On a personal level, I photograph to preserve, to heighten awareness, to find and make peace; to communicate, tell a story, or your story. On assignment, my motivation is to create an image that connects to the needs of my client, and to produce new, imaginative, unique, and informative images. The environmental images I capture find use in travel, editorial, nature, and lifestyle applications for the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana; California, and British Columbia.
As a portrait photographer in the Seattle and Tacoma area of Washington I concentrate on children, families, and senior citizens. Connecting to senior citizens through environmental portraiture creates, preserves, and communicates the wonderful personality of life lived. Photographing children, that yet to come. Families, valued relationships. Business executives, style and leadership.
As a fine art photographer, I work self assigned subjects. Currently, Ecological/Conservation issues and people in need. Recently exhibited was a hanging entitled Spring, focusing on botanical imagery.
Concentrating on editorial stock and portrait photography, I have created advertising, illustrated annual reports and business plans, and exhibited fine art. My work has appeared in national and regional magazines, guide books, and found use by city and state governments. Please visit www.douglasortonimaging.com.
I have been an author for many years, having published editorial and corporate content, salted by the occasional short story and memoir. A book length memoir is now seeking agency. Current projects include an illustrated Northwest travel guide and a gluten free cookbook.
