The Smith River is but one of several wild and scenic rivers feeding the Del Norte Coast, Redwood National Park area of northern California. U.S. Highway 199 runs from Crescent City, CA to Grants Pass and Interstate 5 in Oregon and provides wonderful views and access to the river and Forest Service campgrounds.
