The Murray Morgan Bridge over Tacoma's Thea Foss Waterway, Commencement Bay, formerly carried traffic for SR509. Built in 1913, it is one of the highest vertical lift draw bridge's and is on the National Record of Historic Places (NRHP). Thea Foss Waterway is part of the Commencement Bay Nearshore Tidelands Superfund site. Commencement Bay Nearshore/Tideflats (CB/NT) Superfund Site. Cleanup and redevelopement have created a pleasant, mixed use urban waterfront.
