The new cable-stayed bridge over Thea Foss Waterway replaced the Murray Morgan bridge built in 1913.  Carrying SR509 traffic it is one of only 13 such bridges in the U.S.  It's predacessor Murray Morgan bridge  is one of the highest vertical lift draw bridge's and is on the National Record of Historic Places (NRHP).  Thea Foss Waterway is part of the Commencement Bay Nearshore Tidelands Superfund site.  Commencement Bay Nearshore/Tideflats (CB/NT) Superfund Site.  Cleanup and redevelopement have created a pleasant, mixed use urban waterfront.
