The Clearwater River, which is wholly within the State of Idaho, hosted Native Americans and Lewis and Clark. The South Fork Clearwater River is shown here near Elk City, Idaho along State Highway 12, and alternate route from Lewiston to Grangeville. The South Fork Clearwater shares it's headwaters with the remote Red River and is joined by the equally famous Lochsa. Both famous for rafting, kayaking, fishing, hiking, camping and wildlife. This view is near the south end of Highway 14 at South Fork Campground, Nez Perce National Forest
